America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful, a book by Sri Chinmoy, is a meditation on the moral and spiritual roots of America. It includes sections on various American figureheads, as well as reflections from the nation’s past, and glances into its future.

The website required a traditional and patriotic style, reflecting the elegance of the book itself. It is built as a content management system, in WordPress, so the client (Illumine Press) can add reviews, new items and excerpts as time goes on.

Sangitamiya – The Nectar Music

Sangitamiya is a World Music shop in Reykjavik, Iceland. The clients wanted the website to reflect the warmth, colour, and uniqueness of the physical shop, as well as showcasing their wide variety of products. The design is thus based around the existing style and logo, and brings in textures found in photographs of the shop. The world travel theme is extended into postcard motifs for a personal touch, and an atlas on the homepage that leads to listings of instruments from various countries.

The structure is in WordPress, so the clients can manage the content themselves, including a blog section. It incorporates a wide variety of plugins: notably for translation, newsletter subscription, product image close-ups and Google world maps.

Illumine Group

The Illumine Group specialises in project design, development and management for corporations, governments, NGOs and individual philanthropists, covering such areas as education, healthcare and human rights.

The style is based around a strong existing logo, giving the content space to shine against a simple background. The structure is in WordPress so the client can manage the content. It features a slideshow on the home page with live text, and a lightbox effect for images and case studies.

Heart-Light Distributors

Heart-Light is a major US distributor of the works of Sri Chinmoy: books, music and video.

They needed a flexible content management system to handle a large number of products, with the ability to manage it themselves, including adding music clips and scanned excerpts from books, as well as showcasing key items and linking similar items to recommend further choices. WordPress was used for the site structure. The design incorporates an updated version of their logo, and the company colour scheme. The client wanted a simple, uncluttered style with a hint of Indian decoration; modern but friendly.

The clients wanted a content management system so they could manage the products and news items themselves. They wanted a simple, easy to navigate design, and needed colours that would enhance and showcase their beautiful varieties, so I came up with a site design and updated the logo a little. I really enjoyed working on this project, full of life, colour and freshness!

The World Heart Beat Music Academy envisions a world where music, as a universal form of communication, bridges cultural, political, economic and linguistic barriers.

The Academy aims to bring the myriad of the world’s cultures together through music, providing an environment where all people can experience harmony with their fellow citizens and be empowered to create a feeling of identity and oneness with humanity at large.

I was lucky to be able to design the site and colour scheme from scratch to reflect the joyful, fresh and diverse nature of the Academy. The site is a full content management system in WordPress, so the client has control over the content.

The Eternal Peace Flame

The Eternal Peace Flame is a monument to humanity’s aspiration for peace. It was dedicated to the city of Oslo in 2001 by Sri Chinmoy.

The website is powered by WordPress, so essentially is a blog, allowing the client to add news and photos. It includes a translation plugin to accommodate bilingual content.

The client didn’t have any colours or pre-designed identity. I was thus lucky to have freedom to create a look for the website that supports the dignity and magnificence of the outer site.

Sudhira Hay

Sudhira Hay is a piano technician in San Francisco and London. She chose the colours herself and had the idea of using a Japanese sakura motif, which I love, so I had a great headstart on the design. The website content is mostly in a WordPress blog with a customised template, so the client is able to manage it herself.
