Run and Become is a national chain of specialist running stores. It’s a dynamic and ever-changing enterprise, with an old-fashioned dedication to personal service.

runandbecome.com is my biggest site in terms of content and readership, and I’m proud to have been maintaining the site since 2004. It has certainly evolved a lot since then!

Totopoi

Totopoi is a new online clothing store, specialising in fashions from around the world. As an online boutique, it needed an individual look, to reflect the uniqueness of the products, and their origins. The site was already built in Flying Cart, so my job was to design a look-and-feel based around the Asian style of the existing logo. There were certain restrictions to the design with the content management system, but I was able to bring in some earthy textures, and fresh vibrant colours to give a more lively and authentic atmosphere. This is one of my favourite tasks – bringing warmth and texture into websites, making them feel more friendly, welcoming and unique.

The Lemon Detox, Norway

This is the website for the Norwegian division of the world-renowned Lemon Detox. It features the ability to buy Madal Bal Syrup, an essential ingredient of the Lemon Detox, online using PayPal. It is built in WordPress, providing a content management system for the client to edit and add content.

This is an online shop for a health food retailer in The Hague. They already had a website, but it needed updating and streamlining, including reworking of the logo and branding. The project was basically great fun, and I hope that comes across in the atmosphere of the site.

I aimed for a fresh and alive feeling with the design, to inspire a sense of health and purity. The Flash slideshow on the homepage also makes it feel alive, but keeps a tranquil pace. This was backed up with good quality product images, which can be seen in detail, plus simple navigation.

The client wanted the site to be professional and informative, but with an emphasis on personal service. We therefore used staff pictures and a friendly contact page, to make sure the customer never feels far away from a real person. There is also a blog section where visitors can subscribe to free health tips and product features, which gives a nice personal touch.

For anyone who’s interested in the technical stuff, the structure is in Drupal, with Ubercart for the shopping functionality. This allows for a huge amount of flexibility, both now and in the future. For example, the site needs to be bilingual, although the English section will be completed at a later date.

Editions La Flûte d’Or

La Flûte d’Or is an online book store based in France, specialising in spirituality and meditation.

The client already had a basic logo, but wanted to bring in a warm and beautiful style while maintaining simplicity.

The payment system is all based on PayPal’s shopping cart, so is easy to use for the client and customers alike, and was quite straightforward to set up (even in French!).
