runandbecome.com is my biggest site in terms of content and readership, and I’m proud to have been maintaining the site since 2004. It has certainly evolved a lot since then!

World Festival of the Heart

The World Festival of the Heart is a “Meeting Place of Spirituality, Science and the Arts”. Starting in Melbourne, November 2012, three program-packed days of exhibitions, workshops, dialogues, discussions, devotions and performances of all descriptions: music, storytelling, poetry reading and concerts with leading musicians.

I was fortunate to be involved in the branding and website design right from the start of this ground-breaking and inspirational project!

The Oneness-Fountain-Heart

The Oneness-Fountain-Heart in New York is my favourite restaurant in the world, so I was especially honoured to be asked to make this website! It’s built in WordPress so the client can manage the content. It includes an itemised menu with full screen photos, an interactive location map, a gallery organised into subjects, a news section, and reviews from customers and media, as well as a library of vegetarian resources.

Totopoi

Totopoi is a new online clothing store, specialising in fashions from around the world. As an online boutique, it needed an individual look, to reflect the uniqueness of the products, and their origins. The site was already built in Flying Cart, so my job was to design a look-and-feel based around the Asian style of the existing logo. There were certain restrictions to the design with the content management system, but I was able to bring in some earthy textures, and fresh vibrant colours to give a more lively and authentic atmosphere. This is one of my favourite tasks – bringing warmth and texture into websites, making them feel more friendly, welcoming and unique.

Heart-Light Distributors

Heart-Light is a major US distributor of the works of Sri Chinmoy: books, music and video.

They needed a flexible content management system to handle a large number of products, with the ability to manage it themselves, including adding music clips and scanned excerpts from books, as well as showcasing key items and linking similar items to recommend further choices. WordPress was used for the site structure. The design incorporates an updated version of their logo, and the company colour scheme. The client wanted a simple, uncluttered style with a hint of Indian decoration; modern but friendly.

The Lemon Detox, Norway

This is the website for the Norwegian division of the world-renowned Lemon Detox. It features the ability to buy Madal Bal Syrup, an essential ingredient of the Lemon Detox, online using PayPal. It is built in WordPress, providing a content management system for the client to edit and add content.

Sangitamiya – The Nectar Music

Sangitamiya is a World Music shop in Reykjavik, Iceland. The clients wanted the website to reflect the warmth, colour, and uniqueness of the physical shop, as well as showcasing their wide variety of products. The design is thus based around the existing style and logo, and brings in textures found in photographs of the shop. The world travel theme is extended into postcard motifs for a personal touch, and an atlas on the homepage that leads to listings of instruments from various countries.

The structure is in WordPress, so the clients can manage the content themselves, including a blog section. It incorporates a wide variety of plugins: notably for translation, newsletter subscription, product image close-ups and Google world maps.

Boris Grebenshikov

In a prolific career that has spanned almost four decades, Boris Purushottama Grebenshikov has continued to enchant his audiences with new sounds and a lyrical language that has earned him the affectionate title “Poet Laureate of Russia”.

Accompanied by an international ensemble of musicians performing on instruments from the sitar and tabla to the violin and flute, he presents a fusion of his own classic folk melodies with sounds from around the world.

“Music is an ocean. I just venture into the ocean and follow the waves.” says the artist.

I am extremely honoured to have been able to design posters, leaflets and programmes for the tour. GrebenshikovConcert.com uses elements of my design, but is is the work of Special Operations.

Immortality’s Flame-Waves

Immortality’s Flame-Waves is an all-female theatre company based in London, performing uplifting and illumining stories by Sri Chinmoy.

The client wanted a warm and fun yet professional look, with a mixture of 1950s and modern styling. She wanted the site itself to look like a stage, and to reflect the company’s reputation for colourful productions with an element of surprise. She also wanted lots of light with a few subtle visual effects for liveliness.

The site is thus ostensibly sepia, but with a hint of Flash and rollover images on the navigation and the homepage which spring into full colour, or light up. It was fun to design, and I hope it’s fun to visit!

Madal Bal, Netherlands

This is an online shop for a health food retailer in The Hague. They already had a website, but it needed updating and streamlining, including reworking of the logo and branding. The project was basically great fun, and I hope that comes across in the atmosphere of the site.

I aimed for a fresh and alive feeling with the design, to inspire a sense of health and purity. The Flash slideshow on the homepage also makes it feel alive, but keeps a tranquil pace. This was backed up with good quality product images, which can be seen in detail, plus simple navigation.

The client wanted the site to be professional and informative, but with an emphasis on personal service. We therefore used staff pictures and a friendly contact page, to make sure the customer never feels far away from a real person. There is also a blog section where visitors can subscribe to free health tips and product features, which gives a nice personal touch.

For anyone who’s interested in the technical stuff, the structure is in Drupal, with Ubercart for the shopping functionality. This allows for a huge amount of flexibility, both now and in the future. For example, the site needs to be bilingual, although the English section will be completed at a later date.
