In a prolific career that has spanned almost four decades, Boris Purushottama Grebenshikov has continued to enchant his audiences with new sounds and a lyrical language that has earned him the affectionate title “Poet Laureate of Russia”.

Accompanied by an international ensemble of musicians performing on instruments from the sitar and tabla to the violin and flute, he presents a fusion of his own classic folk melodies with sounds from around the world.

“Music is an ocean. I just venture into the ocean and follow the waves.” says the artist.

I am extremely honoured to have been able to design posters, leaflets and programmes for the tour. GrebenshikovConcert.com uses elements of my design, but is is the work of Special Operations.

Dilmah Tea, Netherlands

I am proud to present a selection of print assignments for Dilmah Tea, commisioned by Madal Bal, Netherlands.

Merrill J. Fernando set out in the 1950s to offer tea drinkers the finest tea on earth… In 1988 he launched his family tea – Dilmah – the first producer owned tea brand in the world, handpicked, perfected and packed at source and shipped within days to tea drinkers around the world… For twenty one years Dilmah has offered consumers the first producer owned, garden fresh, unblended, ethical and single origin tea… In Ceylon, a country famous for its tea, there is a tea famous for its taste. Dilmah.

The work includes advertising in Happinez (currently Holland’s most popular magazine at the time), amongst others; also posters, product sheets, brochures, exhibition banners, promotional CD-ROMs and e-mailshots

Sudhira Hay

Sudhira Hay is a piano technician in San Francisco and London. She chose the colours herself and had the idea of using a Japanese sakura motif, which I love, so I had a great headstart on the design. The website content is mostly in a WordPress blog with a customised template, so the client is able to manage it herself.

Shindhu Ensemble

The international music group Shindhu combine haunting melodies with simple acoustic arrangements using instruments from both East and West. This angelic musical journey is an expression of the inner realm of peaceful meditation. A unique experience!

The posters are for a Nordic tour. I wanted the style to reflect the soft, expansive mood of the music, but using bold beautiful images and strong colour blends to keep it eye-catching.

Anglia Productions

Anglia Productions is a major supplier of news reports, features and documentaries to a broad range of international media companies. Clients such as BBC, CNN and Sky Network over the years have come to rely on their reputation for quality and professionalism.

I was fortunate to be able to redesign their branding from scratch, plus build a new website and print collateral. I decided to add a Flash slideshow in the form of a filmreel as a feature on the site, to give an immediate association with company’s field of interest, and to show some examples of their work.

This is a business card design, front and back. The client specialises in baking unusual cakes to order. She needed a logo, so I combined two stock drawings to create this image. I wanted it to give the impression that nothing is impossible in the cake world!

I wanted the style and colouring to hint at confectionery without being sickly, so the cake image and delicious flavour descriptions could speak for themselves.

Celebration of Light

This is a poster and leaflet design for a musical celebration at The Hidden Gardens in Glasgow. The event takes place overnight, and the set is lit with lanterns. My aim was to give the sense of a garden at night, going into daytime, framing one strong musical image.

51st State Band

51st State Band is probably the largest band in South West London, and most of its members are aged 7 to 18. The band is funded by local authorities and sponsors, providing instruments and tuition, as well as great opportunities to perform.

Purple is the band’s colour, and they had a very simple logo which I jazzed up a little. The client wanted a 1930’s “speakeasy” style, but light and fun enough to appeal to kids. The impact is mainly visual; the band provided plenty of great images and videos, which I supplemented with stock drawings to create texture and atmosphere. This is probably one of the most inspiring projects I’ve been lucky enough to work on!
